Major Chandrakanth, the blockbuster movie which starred the legendary actor NTR completes twenty years today. It was released exactly 20 years ago, on the 23rd of April in the year 1993. The movie had Mohan Babu, Ramya krishna, Sarada, Nagma, Amrish Puri and Bramhanandam playing major roles apart from NTR. The movie stands out in the tollywood film industry as one of the most successful telugu movies with NTR at one of his best performances.

The movie was produced by Mohan Babu under Sri Lakshmi Prasanna pictures banner. Legendary director K.Raghavendra Rao directed the movie with the Paruchuri brothers writing the script. Music was given by the popular music director, M.M.Keeravani. The popular song ‘punya bhumi naa desam’ which is from this movie rose to a lasting fame with NTR portraying the roles of Alluri SeetharamaRaju, Chathrapathi Shivaji, Katta Brahmanna and Subhash Chandrabose in just one song. 20 years after the release of the movie, the song is still played on Independence and republic days.
