Best Comedians Of Tollywood-1.

There are many comedians in our Telugu film industry. Among them we have great comedians like Relangi, Ramana Reddy, Raju Babu who are very popular for their comedy till today even they left the world long back.

Relangi: Relangi Venkat Ramaiah popularly known as Relangi was one of the great comedians in Telugu film industry. He was born on 13th August 1910 at Ravulapalem in Andhra Pradesh.  Before entering into films , he was harikatha performer. He started his film career with the role of Vidushaka in the movie “Sri Krishna Tulabaram” released in the year 1935. After that he worked as a production manager under the popular director C.Pullaiah till he got a good break with his role in the movie “Gollabhama” released in the year 1947. He used to play any role with ease and he was even a good playback singer. In those days he was paid equally with the heroes of the movie. Girija and Relangi  are the most popular on screen couple. Some of his notable  films are  “Guna Sundari Katha”, Missamma”, “Mayabazaar”, “Nartanasala”, Donga Ramudu”, Iddaru Mitrulu”, “Chaduvukunna Ammayilu”, “Appu Chesi Pappu Koodu”, “Velugu Needalu”, “Vipra Narayana”, “ Illarikam”, “Aaradhana”, “Illarikam” and “Preminchichoodu”. He acted in Telugu movies for nearly 5 decades.  This great actor was been honoured with ‘Padma Shree” by the government of India in 1970 for his contribution to the film industry.This great artist left this world on  25th November 1975 at the age of 65 years.

Ramana Reddy: Tikkavarapu Venkata Ramana Reddy popularly known as Ramana Reddy  was a great comedian of Tollywood. He was born on 1st October 1921 at Jagadevipeta, Nellore district in Andhra Pradesh.  He worked as a Sanitary Inspector before entering into films. He even used to give Magic Shows and also helped many voluntary organizations. He was the paternal uncle of T.Subbirami Reddy, Member of Parliament. He used to act very easily. He debuted as an actor with the film “Malapilla” in 1951. He acted in many movies and did different roles. His role as David in the movie “Missamma” released in 1955 is very popular even till today and also the role as Chinnamayya in the movie “Mayabazaar” released in 1957. The great actresss Suryakantam is being paired opposite to him in many movies. He acted mostly in N.T.R and A.N.R’s movies. Some of his notable films are “ Gundamma Katha”, “”Missamma”, “Maya Bazaar”, “Aradhana”,”Bharya Bhartalu”, “ Illarikam”, “Appu Chesi Pappu Koodu”, “Raamudu Bheemudu”,” Aatma Balam”. This popular artist died on 11th November 1971 at the age of 53 years.

Raju Babu:  Punyamurthula Appalarju popularly known as Raju Babu was a great comedian and also a great character artist. He was born on 20th October 1937 in  Rajumandry, Andhra Pradesh.  He worked as a Telugu teacher before entering into films.  He started his film career as a n actor with the movie “Samajam” in 1960 directed by Addala Narayana Rao. He was very popular for his peculiar comedy. He acted in more than 589 movies in less than 20 years. His brothers Ananth and Chitti Babu are also comedians of Tollywood. Raju Babu and Rama Prabha acted together in many movies and they were the best onscreen comedy couple. He even acted as a hero in some movies. The song ‘Vinara Sooramma Kooturi Moguda Vishyamu Chebuthanu “ from the movie “Illu Illalu”  featured on  Raju Babu and Rama Prabha became very popular in those days. Some of his notable films as a comedian “Paramanadaya Sishyula Katha”, “Bomma Borusa”, “Illu Illalu”, “Kodalu Diddina Kapuram” , “Yevarikivare Yamunatheere” and many more.  He received 16 Film fare awards for the Best Actor in the Comic role and also received Nandi Award as the Best comedian. This comedian died on 14th February in 1983 at the age of 45 years.
