100 Years Of Indian Cinema

The Indian cinema is celebrating the 100 year completion. Telugu cinema is completing 82 years of its first release of Bhaktha Prahlada (1931). As part of celebrations of Indian Cinema, businessoftollywood.com remembers and recollects the information of The Greats of Early Telugu Cinema.

Yoganand born on April 16th ,1922 at Madras(now Chennai).His Father Venkata Das was an estate Manager under Nawab Raza Ali Khan of Machlipatnam.His elder brother Koteswara Rao was a Sound Engineer .

D.Subbayya,a Photographic equipment business man adopted Yoganand. He later became an expert Photographer. As he was interested in dramas, he came close to Tungala Chalapathi Rao and Yadavalli Nageswar Rao in Machilipatnam.
He joined Jiten Benarjee of Newtone Studios and later worked with the famous Cinematographer M.A.Rehaman.Yoganad started his career in the film industry as an associate to Gudavalli Rambhramam and L.V.Prasad.

He was an associate to L.V.Prasad for the movie “Samsaram”. In the year 1943 he worked as an Editor with Manikyam for the film “Mayalokam”.

His first movie in Telugu was “Ammalakkalu” in the year 1953.He did nearly 50 films both in Telugu and Tamil.

N.T.Rama Rao was the hero in 17 movies directed by Yoganand.

His successful films include Thodu Dongalu.Ilavelupu,Ummadi Kutumbam,MugaNomu,DabbukuLokamDasoham,VaadeVeedu,Jayasimha.

His Film“Ummadi Kutumbam” was selected for screening at Moscow Film Festival.
