ARUDRA

Bhagavathula Sadasiva Sankara Sastry popularly known as Arudra was born on 31st of August 1925 at Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh. After his primary education at Visakhapatnam shifted to Vizianagaram for graduation. He was a great writer, lyricist, and a poet. He was a band boy in Indian Air Force from 1943 to 1947. He was shifted to Madras (now Chennai) and worked as an editor for a Telugu magazine Anandavani. He joined the film industry in the year 1949 as a lyricist and dialogue writer. His first film was Beedalapaatlu released in the year 1950 with C. Nagaiah as hero.

Awards:-

Andhra University, Visakhapatnam conffered on him Kalaprapoorna for his contribution to Telugu Culture and Telugu cinema in the year 1985.

S V University, Tirupathi honored him with Doctorate for letters in the year 1978.

This renowned poet/writer died at a Private Nursing Home in Chennai on 4th June 1998 with renal failure.

Today being Arudra’s birthday Business of Tollywood remembers this great Telugu poet on his 86th birth anniversary.
