Ghattamaneni Sivarama Krishna was born on 31st May in Andhra Pradesh in the year 1943. He was born to the couple Veeranaghavayya Chowdary and Nagaratnamma Ghattamaneni.
He did his graduation from the prestigious college C R R College in Eluru. In that college he shared the room with the aspiring actors Sobhan Babu and Murali Mohan. He participated in various roles in the various cultural programmes performed in his college. After his graduation he married Inidra Devi on November 1st in the year 1962. She gave him much support in his tough times. This couple has two sons and three daughters. Ramesh Babu and Mahesh Babu are the sons and Padmavathi, Manjula and Priya Darshini are the daughters Ramesh Babu is the eldest among them. Ramesh Babu, Mahesh Babu and Manjula are also actors in the Telugu Film industry. Later he married to Vijaya Nirmala, his frequent leading lady in his films in the year 1969.
He started his Film career with his the film ‘Thene Manasulu‘, directed by Adurthi Subba Rao. This movie was the first full length social colour movie in the telugu Film Industry. His hundredth movie was “Alluri Seetaramaraju” which was again the first ‘Cinemascope’ Telugu movie. His Two Hundredth movie was ‘Simhasanam”, which was again the first 70mm movie in the Telugu Film Industry. His Three Hundredth movie “Telugu Veera Levara”. This was the first DTS movie.
He lived in the role of an innocent villager in the film Sakshi directed by Bapu.
Thene Manasulu, Kanne Manasulu, Undamma Bottu Pedatha, Amayakudu, Gowri, Muhurtha Balam, Goodachari116, Avekallu, Alluri Seetha Rama Raju, Sri Rajeswari Vilas Coffee Club, Marapurani Katha, Nenante Nene, Neramu Siksha, Mosagallaku Mosagadu, Simhasanam, Kurukshethram, Atthagaru-Kotthakodalu are the films which can be rated as the best of G Krishna acted films.
He was the one to introduce the ‘Cow Boy’ and the ‘James Bond’ roles to the Tollywood. He developed the reputation as the ‘Trend Setter’ in the industry. He did the first cowboy role in the film “Mosagallaku Mosagadu” and the first James Bond film in Telugu “Agent Gopi“. Later on he was called as the ‘Andhra James Bond’. He acted in nearly 350 movies. He was the man to bring all the directing and filming technologies in the Tollywood. He started his own Production House named “Padmalaya Films” and later he even started another Production House named “Vijaya Krishna Productions”. On this banner he produced the movies like “Meena”, ”Devadasu”. He even directed films. He directed Seventeen Films and “Simhasanam” was the first film he directed.
He is the owner of Padmalaya Studios in Hyderabad.
He supported his wife Vijaya Nirmala by acting in many movies directed by her. She enterecd into the ‘Guniess Book of World Records’ as the lady who directed many movies. He has his own way of acting and his own way of dialogue delivery. He acted with “NTR“, “ANR“, etc. He acted with almost all the heroines of that period. His film career is nearly about Forty Years. He is very handsome. He is called as ‘Super Star’ and ‘Nata Shekar’. He had and still doing a lot for the Telugu Film Industry.
Awards:
Film fare award: He received the Lifetime Achievement Award (South) in the year 1997.
NTR National Award: He received the Ntr National Award in the the year 2003.
Padma Bhushan: He was given the Padma Bhushan award by the Govt of India in year 2009.
He entered into the politics and became a member of Parliament from the Congress Party in 1989. He left politics after the death of Rajiv Gandhi in the year 1991.
