Dasara,” the first film from director Srikanth Odela, delivers a cinematic experience filled with highs and lows. The movie, set in Veerlapally, paints a visually compelling picture with intriguing characters and a suspenseful atmosphere. However, it falls short in fully exploring some promising themes, leaving viewers with abrupt conclusions.

In the village of Veerlapally, societal issues intertwine with power struggles at the Silk Bar, where casteism plays a divisive role. The characters, including Rajanna, Shivanna, and Chinna Nambi, engage in a constant battle for control, with liquor emerging as the ultimate victor.

The protagonist, Dharani, portrayed by Nani, carries the weight of childhood fears, finding solace in alcohol. His friendship with Suri, played by Deekshith Shetty, takes precedence over his love life. As the narrative unfolds, Dharani and his group are reluctantly drawn into a larger conflict, revealing hidden agendas and escalating tensions.

While the film excels in establishing the world of Veerlapally and its characters, it falters in fully capitalizing on its potential. Some scenes lack engagement, and certain themes remain unexplored. Yet, Srikanth Odela manages to deliver impactful moments, particularly in the pre-interval and climax scenes, showcasing his ability to evoke strong emotions.

Nani’s performance is commendable, shouldering the weight of the film, while Keerthy Suresh and the supporting cast contribute effectively. Despite its shortcomings, “Dasara” earns credit for its slow-burn narrative, making it a noteworthy addition to the 2023 best movies list. While it may not break new ground, the collaboration between Srikanth Odela and Nani contributes to the film’s overall impact, making it deserving of recognition in the cinematic landscape of 2023.
