Dasari Narayana Rao is a popular writer, director, actor, journalist, publisher and film producer. Dasari born at Palakullu, in West Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh on 4th May 1942.

Tollywood in recognition of his Services to Telugu cinema has declared 4th May as ‘Directors Day’.

The first directors day awards will be presented on 6th May 2018 by Film Analytical and Appreciation Society.

He has entered into Telugu cinema as director through the film Thata Manavadu released in 1972.Most of the films directed by Dasari carried message oriented family sentiments. He has introduced Actor Mohan Babu with the film Swargam Narakam.

Thata Manavadu, Swargam Narakam,Premabhishekam, Swayamvaram,Majnu, Mamagaru, Gorintaku,Thoorpu padamara,Sivaranjani,Meghasandesam,Balipeetam,Chillarakottu Chittemma,Sardar Paparayudu,Osey Ramulamma are the best among-st 140 odd films directed by Dasari Narayana Rao.

As a publisher he floated a Telugu daily “Udayam” and a film magazine “Sivaranjani”.
Dasari Narayana Rao wife Dasari Padma was a Producer for about 50 films on own Banner “Tarka Prabhu Films”.

Dasari Narayana Rao was a true congressman and was a Central minister.

He was honored with NTR National award in the year 2007 in recognition of his services to Telugu cinema.
