Director Siva Interview

Hero Suriya Delivers a Stellar Performance in Two Different Roles in ‘Kanguva’ – Director Siva

Star hero Suriya is starring in the highly anticipated movie Kanguva, directed by Siva. This film is being made as a massive period action epic. Disha Patani and Bobby Deol play pivotal roles in the movie. Produced by KE Gnanavel Raja, Vamsi, and Pramod, Kanguva is being produced under the renowned production banners of Studio Green and UV Creations, with a grand budget. The movie is set to have a worldwide theatrical release on the 14th of this month, with Mythri Movie Distributors handling its release in the Nizam region. In a recent interview, director Siva shared the highlights of Kanguva.

– “My journey in the Telugu film industry began as an assistant cameraman for the movie Premante Idera. After that, I learned editing. Since childhood, I’ve been passionate about reading literature, which eventually led me to a love for writing. I’ve directed 9 films so far, and Kanguva is my tenth.”

– “I had previously worked as a producer on the film Siruthai under the Studio Green banner. After a long break, I reunited with producer Gnanavel for Kanguva. When I shared some of my scripts with him, he was highly impressed and asked me to narrate the story to Surya. I told Suriya the script, and he embraced me, saying it was excellent. He immediately agreed to be a part of the film, and that’s how the journey of Kanguva began.”

– “We’ve been working on Kanguva for two and a half years. We focused on meticulous pre-production planning and used the best technical methods to ensure the film was shot in 3D. Kanguva will undoubtedly be one of the finest 3D films ever made.”

– “Suriya provided full support throughout the making of Kanguva. We would start preparations for the shoot at 4 AM, with our first shot at 7 AM. Suriya would spend hours in makeup before stepping in front of the camera. We shot in the hills, and there was a lot of hill climbing involved. Suriya would join us on those climbs. On some days, 140 trucks would be used for shooting logistics.”

– “Suriya will be seen in two distinct roles: Kangu and Francis. Kangu is a character from a thousand years ago—an unstoppable force, a hero without boundaries. Francis, on the other hand, is a modern character who can be controlled by certain elements. Surya’s performance in both these roles, one from a period setting and the other contemporary, is truly remarkable.”

– “Few people know that Suriya is an excellent gymnast. He’s not only skilled in martial arts but also runs very well. His fitness played a significant role during the filming of Kanguva. At 50 years old, it’s not unusual for him to have a six-pack. He follows a strict diet and rigorous workout routine to maintain his physique.”

– “I was impressed by Bobby Deol’s swag after watching a video of him, and I chose him for the character of Udhiran in this movie. Udhiran is a ruthless character, and Bobby’s swag matched that personality perfectly, which brought something fresh to the screen. Bobby Deol added tremendous energy to Kanguva with his screen presence. I was thrilled when Bobby told me that this role was a unique attempt in his career. Disha Patani’s character, Angelina, has many layers, and her performance will be a special attraction in the movie. Disha also brought her own unique energy to the film.”

– “We aimed to present a new world to the audience in Kanguva. In today’s trend, viewers enjoy seeing fresh worlds and backgrounds on screen. Such movies are gaining popularity, and this is the perfect time for filmmakers to take bold new approaches. This was a key factor that inspired me to make Kanguva.”

– “Writing a big story is easy, but making it is challenging. We went to natural locations and shot the film there. It’s one thing to write in the script that 400 ships sail across the ocean, but it’s a whole other challenge to bring that to life on screen. For that, we needed strong technical expertise. My team gave me exceptional support in this regard, and that’s why I made sure to include Shiva and the team in the title credits.”

– “Devi Sri Prasad is a powerhouse of talent. I worked with him on Veeram in the past, and he gave Kanguva an incredible sound. Devi would often tell me to keep pushing hard for the movie, and his songs and background score added so much to the film. Cinematographer Vetri, who has been working with me for a long time, provided stunning visuals for this movie.”

– “This film unfolds across two time periods. Kanguva is a hero from a thousand years ago. It will be fascinating to explore the promise he made and the courage he displayed to uphold it. On the other hand, we also show the character of Francis in the present day. Kanguva, however, won’t have a partner in this movie, but he will be featured in a sequel, where Disha will play Francis’ partner.”

– “As an audience, I enjoy watching commercial films, and as a director, I love making them. Kanguva strikes the perfect balance between creativity and commercial appeal.”

– “Producer Gnanavel garu was confident about the Kanguva project from the very beginning. After we showed him some of the rushes, he told me, ‘Make the movie the way you want it, and don’t compromise on anything.’ I’m grateful to him for that. I’m also happy that the prestigious banner UV Creations is part of the production. Gnanavel garu shares a strong association with UV, and that partnership has been great.”

– “Kanguva will feature a surprising guest role that will lead into the sequel. You’ll have to wait and see who plays that character on screen. I also have plans to work with every star hero in the Telugu film industry. I have some interesting scripts, and if the opportunity arises, I would love to collaborate with Telugu stars.”
