Lucifer 2: Empuraan, also marketed as L2E, is a 2025 Indian Malayalam-language action thriller film directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran and written by Murali Gopy. It was jointly produced by Antony Perumbavoor, Gokulam Gopalan, and A. Subaskaran through Aashirvad Cinemas, Sree Gokulam Movies, and Lyca Productions, respectively. Lyca Productions sold their rights to Sree Gokulam movies at the last minute. The film is both the prequel of sequel of the 2019 Indian film Lucifer and is the second installment in the L Franchise. It stars Mohanlal as Khureshi Ab’raam/Stephen Nedumpally, alongside Prithviraj, Abhimanyu Singh, Tovino Thomas, Warrier, Rick Yune, Andrea Tivadar, Jerome Flynn, Indrajith Sukumaran, Eriq Ebouaney, and Suraj Venjaramoodu.
Story
A continuation of Lucifer, it delves deeper into the Khureshi Ab’raam character and the backstory of Zayed Masood character. The main story starts after 5 years from the events of Lucifer.
Review
A movie with mass appeal and a unique style, Empuraan has many call backs to the first movie. The screenplay is split between the political struggles in Kerala and the international dealings of Khureshi Ab’raam. Lucifer 2 , while it has good action and decent performances overall looses out with overused slow motion and rehash of moments from the first part. The music lacks compared to first part, while it has some cool bgms, it doesn’t work to elevate the scenes as much.
Verdict
A one time watch, for people who would like to get more into the Lucifer universe.
