Mechanic Rocky is a 2024 Indian Telugu-language action comedy thriller film written and directed by Ravi Teja Mullapudi, in his directorial debut. It is produced by Ram Talluri under SRT Entertainments. The film stars Vishwak Sen in the titular role, alongside Meenakshi Chaudhary and Shraddha Srinath.
Story
Rocky (Rakesh) works as a mechanic in a mechanic shed (car repair) owned by his father. When the land underneath their shed is coveted by a local rowdy, Rocky is desperate to to pay off this rowdy and keep the land, which was passed down from his grandfather and is very dear to his father. The race to arrange the money is full of twists and turns where the real truth about this whole ordeal is revealed at the end.
Review
Mechanic Rocky starts off slow with the mass hero slow motion entrance and comedy from “Viva” Harsha filling the first half, the story is slowly setup as Rocky narrates his story to Shraddha’s character, with the introduction of the Sunil’s character and a conflict over land. All this goes at a good pace but it still lacks that “interesting factor” that will pull us into the story. While the action scenes and the comedy scenes seem to contain good and interestingly new ideas, their execution still ends with us wanting a little bit more.
Minor goofs and slight leaps of logic bug us but we end up forgiving such leaps as it’s part and parcel with our movies.
The first half ends with giving us a little of that “interesting factor” in the form of the interval twist which keeps us in our seats for the second half.
The second half picks up from where the first half lacks and gives us a lot of interesting twists which form the main story point. All the silly parts of the story or some parts which we felt were odd in the first half are neatly explained here and it all makes sense giving us a sense of satisfaction with the story.
The performances are all good all around, Vishwak Sen has brought his “Mass ka Das” for his fans, Meenakshi Chaudary does well in her character as a young woman who is burdened with her families livelihood. Shraddha Srinath is a highlight in this movie, with her character demanding a larger acting range.
Music by Jakes Bejoy elevates a lot of scenes in this movie. The cinematography by Manojh Reddy Katasani is also good.
Debut Director Ravi Teja Mullapudi has done a decent job with this movie despite the goofs or a slower first half experience.
Verdict
Mechanic Rocky is a decent watch at the theatres but you have to be ready to give this movie a chance, with it’s total runtime of 2hours 36 minutes. I recommend it for all the “Mass ka Das” fans.
