Overview
Maimed and unemployed, Raghu returns home with an artificial leg hoping to start life afresh. However, unsuccessful attempts at honest living force him to a life of crime. He ceases wearing the leg but remains possessive of it. Raghu has the foot coated with gold, after becoming a small time don. Hunted by enemies, Raghu joins a nomadic group of rat-trappers and a colorful ascetic. A drifter, he eventually settles down as a farmhouse caretaker before losing his life trying to retrieve the leg. Gopalam, another gangster, seizes the leg and starts the "Golden Foot Cabaret" for his mistress Sailaja. She betrays him to get the leg but is killed. Gopalam too loses the leg.
