Saripodhaa Sanivaaram Review

Emotional Engagement Emoji

Saripodhaa Sanivaaram  action thriller film written and directed by Vivek Athreya, and produced by D. V. V. Danayya under DVV Entertainment. The film stars Nani, alongside S. J. Suryah, Priyanka Mohan, Abhirami, Aditi Balan, P. Sai Kumar and Subhalekha Sudhakar.

Story

Surya only shows his anger on Saturday. Whatever injustices that anger him during the week, he writes down the names of the perpetrators and only beats them up on Saturday. This nature of his is always a thorn on his father’s and sister’s side but they still love him nevertheless. Dayanand is the cruel and foolish CI of Sokulapalem. He has a running feud with his brother, who is the corporator of the region. So he releases all his anger on his brother by assaulting the people of Sokulapalem.

Charulatha is a new constable in Sokulapalem who wants to help the people there from the CI’s assaults. When Surya meets Charulatha and he learns about Dayanand, rest of the story revolves around how Surya and Charulatha stop Dayanand.

Review

The film has very good first half, showing a bit of the problems that Surya’s Saturday violence causes his father and sister. Vivek Athreya shines when showing the budding relationship of Surya and Charulatha. The film takes a long time to get the hero to Sokulapalem.

The connect between the hero and the village is not strong enough. The serious moments are not shown serious enough.

The best part of the first half is the introduction and story of the villain Dayanand and his feud with his brother. The villagers being the victim of Dayanand’s frustration is very interesting. But all this flops in the second half when Dayanand and his brother’s feud is dealt with comedically, diluting the tension which needed to be built on. It all gets predictable from there culminating with a not very interesting final fight, where the hero is Superman, not reacting to any of the punches delivered by the villain.

The Music gets top marks, Jakes Bejoy excelling at hyping up both the villain and the hero.

Cinematography is good, although the choice to put shaky cam in one of the fights seems unneccesary.

S.J. Suryah succeeds in portraying this cruel yet foolish villain. Nani while excelling from Sunday to Friday, doesn’t convince us with his anger on Saturday. While we see the physical damage this angry man does, we never see this rage on his face. Priyanka Mohan does a good job but her role could’ve been even bigger with better scenes.

Overall it’s a decent watch with it’s flaws. A good first half but a convoluted and unconvincing second half.

Verdict

While it has it’s flaws, this does it’s comedy and romance well. The action scenes are decent but the drama is does not hold enough tension.

I would say it is a one time watch at best at the theatres, recommend you watch it once it’s on the OTTs.
