P.Bhanumathi was born at Doddavaram in Prakasam District of Andhra Pradesh.She was a noted actress, singer, music director, director, producer, Story writer, lyricist, carnatik vocalist, novelist and studio owner (Bharani Studios).She was born to Bommaraju Venkata Subbaiah and Saraswathamma. Her father was a classical singer and she learnt music from him.
Bhanumathi is the only Lady Telugu film personality who commanded the Telugu Cinema in many fields as an all-rounder.
Bhanumathi married P S Ramakrishna Rao a director and producer of films in the year 1943. Later she became popular as Bhanumathi Ramakrishna.
Bhanumathi was a popular playback singer with melodious voice. She had her own identity as singer with peculiar melodious tone.
In all the Movies produced by Bhanumathi, She has rendered at least one classical devotional song.
Bhanumathi has served many literary and cultural Organizations in different roles.

Bhanumathi got the Andhra Pradesh Sahithya Academy award as a best short story writer for the book Atthagari Kathalu.
